Installation

MaxCell Edge Installation Instructions
Materials Needed
To complete the installation, you will need:
- Ball bearing swivel
- Retractable safety cutter
- Black vinyl tape
- Pulling machine or tugger
- Cable cutter
- Termination accessories
- Cable lubricant
Single Pack Instructions
Step 1
Begin by measuring roughly 16-18 in. from the end of your MaxCell Edge product. Next, make a 2-in. incision, ensuring it runs parallel to the product and is below the colored stitching.
Step 2
Pull a roughly 6-ft. piece of pull tape or rope through the incision and tie off on the incision using a nonslip knot and trim any excess. Push the remaining ends back into the cells far enough to ensure they are free-floating during the installation. Do not include the tapes in the pulling head.
Step 3
Create three to four half-hitch knots down to the end of the MaxCell Edge. Under tension, tighten the hitches, starting with the one closest to the incision. Tension is crucial for secure knots.
Step 4
To secure the knots, apply black vinyl tape over the last two half-hitch knots and at the end of the MaxCell Edge. This step ensures that MaxCell Edge stays secure throughout the process.
Step 5
The most important tool to make your installation easy is a ball bearing swivel. A ball bearing swivel must always be used between the pull tape or rope and MaxCell Edge. Tie the exposed pull tape to a ball bearing swivel using a bowline knot, making sure that the rotating end is facing the duct. Connect the pull tape or rope from the conduit to the other end of the swivel. Apply black vinyl tape over both knots.
Step 6
Begin pulling the MaxCell Edge into the conduit. To avoid spiraling, hand-guide MaxCell Edge into the conduit opening, maintaining its angle and face. When pulling in MaxCell Edge, make every effort to conform to current industry standards with regard to distances and sweeps between any two pull points.
Multiple Pack Instructions
Step 1
When installing multiple packs of MaxCell Edge, tie a 6-ft. piece of pull tape or rope to all MaxCell Edge sleeves and create three to four half-hitch knots around all the sleeves at one time. All tapes should be free-floating. Neatly stack each pack of MaxCell Edge on top of one another aligning all the ribs on the same side and begin pulling the packs into the conduit. For best results, hand-feed the packs into the conduit, keeping them together and facing the same way throughout the entire pull.
Step 2
Tie off MaxCell Edge before pulling the first cable into the pack. When installing your first cable into MaxCell Edge, we suggest using the center cell. Install additional cables in either cell next to the center cell. Even though MaxCell Edge is pre-lubricated, we suggest you apply lubricant to your cable. It will help ensure that your cable will pull more easily. All lubricants must be cable pulling type lubricants.
Step 3
After cables are installed leave at least 18-24-in. of MaxCell Edge extending from the conduit before you cut off the remainder. You can then seal the conduit by using a MaxBag self-inflating resealable bag or other reusable termination bag.
